Reactions to Galaxy Note Edge Divided – Innovative, or Impractical?
Regarding Samsung Electronics’ newly-introduced Galaxy Note Edge tablets, there are mixed reactions in the public.
Samsung Electronics hosted “Samsung Unpacked” at Tempodrom Berlin, Germany on September 3 before the IFA 2014, the biggest consumer electronics show in Europe, officially begins. Of course, The Galaxy Note Edge drew the most attention at the event.
The tablet has a curved lateral display, so that icons can be displayed on the side of the device contiguously with the front screen. While watching videos or surfing the Internet, users can check messages on the separate lateral screen. And even when the smartphone cover is closed, apps can be operated from the edge screen.
Since the Galaxy Note Edge is the very first product of which the curved screen covers the right side, many IT communities and SNS users in Korea expressed delight at the possibilities.
However, some raised questions about practicality. What can be done along the right edge can also be done through the cover viewport as well. Also, the functionality of the exposed edge is limited. Since the display curves over the right-hand side only, it is uncomfortable for left-handed people to use. Despite the fact that the screen automatically flips to remain vertical if the device is held upside down, the physical home button is then at the top of the device, which is an imperfect left-handed solution.
The Galaxy Note Edge has become a hot Internet topic since its release. Whether such interest leads to the success of the Galaxy Note Edge or makes it only transitional product suffering from low sales like the Galaxy Round from last year is a question that many are eager to see answered.
