One great-great-great feature in Ubuntu Mate is "Welcome"

 - Yeap in Linux, is all about getting the best software for your PC - and Welcome it does just that = it recommends the best apps for a variety of tasks

  - Best of all is easy to find, is always in your Menu < System < Welcome

 -  It looks great

  - Easy to browse

My personal thought =  Best app ever of its kind as far as i remember
( it resembles to the first page of Ubuntu Software Center, but is much better, because of it s simplicity... )

Amazon.com lets you play with an Android virtual machine, try apps before you buy them

When Amazon's Appstore rolled out last week, we glossed over one detail that merely seemed neat. Today, we're inclined to say that Test Drive may be the most significant part of Amazon's announcement that day. Basically, Test Drive allows US customers to take apps for a spin at Amazon.com, with all the comfort that their tried-and-true desktop web browser brings -- but rather than sit you down with a Flash-based mockup of the app, Amazon is giving you a taste of bona fide cloud computing with an Android virtual machine.

In other words, what you're looking at in the screenshot above isn't just a single program, but an entire virtual Android smartphone with working mouse controls, where you can not only try out Paper Toss, but also delete it, browse through the device's photo gallery, listen to a few tunes, or even surf the web from the working Android browser -- as difficult as that may be without keyboard input. Amazon explains:
Clicking the "Test drive now" button launches a copy of this app on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), a web service that provides on-demand compute capacity in the cloud for developers. When you click on the simulated phone using your mouse, we send those inputs over the Internet to the app running on Amazon EC2 - just like your mobile device would send a finger tap to the app. Our servers then send the video and audio output from the app back to your computer. All this happens in real time, allowing you to explore the features of the app as if it were running on your mobile device.
Today, Amazon's Test Drive is basically just Gaikai for mobile phones -- its purpose is simply to sell apps, nothing more. But imagine this for a sec: what if you could access your own smartphone data, instead of the mostly blank slate that Amazon provides here?

Google Now finally pulls in data from your favorite apps

At long last, Google Now will support third-party apps. That means that in addition to serving you helpful information like when your next appointment is and how long it'll take you to get to the airport, Google's predictive search app will now push data from third-party apps too. The list for supported third-party apps at launch is long -- almost 40 at current count -- and include notable apps such as Airbnb, Lyft, The Guardian and Pandora. The idea here is if you already have these apps on your phone, info from those will be pushed to cards in Google Now. So for example, Pandora will offer recommendations to you on your commute, or Airbnb will remind you of the place that you were searching for and ask you if you want to book it. It'll also work in concert with contextual information from the phone, so if you've just arrived at the airport, Lyft might ask you if you want a ride.

According to the Wall Street Journal, no user data from Google Now will be shared with third parties and though some Now cards will be triggered by location, your location itself won't be shared. If you do tap on that third-party Now card though, it'll launch that particular third-party app and it would get your data as it would normally. So far, third-party integration will only work with Android and only if you have those third-party apps installed. The new feature should start rolling out to Android users some time today.

Apps:5 Tips and Tricks to Get the Most Out of Pidgin

Heard of Pidgin? You should have. It’s one of the best multi-protocol instant messaging apps for Windows and Linux, and it’s open source. Pidgin includes some interesting plugins and features that you might not know about.
This article assumes you’re already familiar with Pidgin. We’ve covered Pidgin in the past, so check out our beginner’s guide if you’re just getting started with Pidgin.

Be a Psychic

Psychic mode is arguably one of Pidgin’s coolest plugins. The psychic mode plugin detects those “Your buddy is typing a new message” notifications, even when you’re not already in a conversation with your buddy. It’ll pop up a new window (or tab) when it does. If you’re quick enough, you can fire off a new message to your buddy before they finish typing their own, surprising them!

Just click the Tools menu and select Plugins to open Pidgin’s plugins window.

Top Android news of the week: Windows phone, Samsung overheating, and Google apps

Summary:In the news this week were rumors that Microsoft is thinking about running Android apps, Samsung is changing processors due to overheating issues, and a simple way to get Google apps on custom ROMs.

Rumor: Microsoft considering support for running Android apps

A report surfaced this week that claims Microsoft is considering letting Windows Phone owners run Android apps. The lack of apps compared to the competition has long plagued Windows Phone, and this would be a way to deal with that situation.
If Microsoft did allow running Android apps on Windows devices it should make it easier to get Android device owners to switch to Windows Phone, or Windows 10.

The Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor by Qualcomm has been delayed for a while. The company says it will be released soon, but information has surfaced that may impact the release.
Samsung is said to have dropped plans to use the new Snapdragon processor due to overheating exposed during testing. The company planned on putting this processor in the upcoming Galaxy S6.
This information comes from an anonymous source so it should be taken with a grain of salt.

10 Material Design Android apps you should be using right now

Last year, Google unveiled its design vision for the future. Called Material Design, it incorporates bold colors, flat elements, and informative animations to create a fresh user interface for the modern age. Material Design made its major debut with the launch of Android 5.0 Lollipop in the fall, and Google has been rapidly updating its own apps and services to take advantage of the new design directives.
Google isn't the only one that's been applying Material Design ideas to its apps: plenty of third-party Android app makers have released refreshed and overhauled apps to match Google's new platform. These apps often look and feel great, and they're typically much more enjoyable to use than older Android apps thanks to their fun animations and delightful transitions.

Here are 10 Android apps that have taken advantage of Google's new tools to provide fresh takes on old ideas. (Note: if you don't yet have Android 5.0 Lollipop on your phone, you can still install and use these apps. The designs and appearances will be the same, but older phones won't support all of the animations and transitions possible with Lollipop.)

8 awesome paid iPhone apps that are all free for a limited time (save $45!)

A new week is here and we’re starting things off on the right foot with some great paidiPhone and iPad apps that are all completely free to download right now. Today’s list has eight apps total, and they would cost you a combined $45 on most days if you wanted to get them all. For a limited time, however, you can snag each and every one of them without paying a dime — but only if you hurry!
These are paid iPhone and iPad apps that have been made available for free for a limited time by their developers. There is no way to tell how long they will be free. These sales could end an hour from now or a week from now — obviously, the only thing we can guarantee is that they were free at the time this post was written. If you click on a link and see a price listed next to an app instead of the word “get,” it is no longer free. The sale has ended. If you download the app, you will be charged.
