07.Ubuntu 14.04.2 arrives with updated hardware support and a new Linux kernel

Canonical just released Ubuntu 14.04.2, the second point-release of the Ubuntu 14.04 LTS series. As always, this point release brings hardware support updates so you can continue installing Ubuntu 14.04 on new PCs. You won’t get the hardware support updates on existing PCs, though—if your computer’s hardware doesn’t all work properly, you’ll want to update it yourself.
Let’s dig in.

Why point releases matter

Ubuntu 14.04 is a long-term service—or LTS—release. It’ll be supported until 2019. Ubuntu 16.04 will replace it as the new LTS release in April, 2016. New versions of Ubuntu come out every month, but they don’t have huge improvements over the LTS releases. Everyday users and businesses are better off sticking with an LTS release for the stability and long-term support.
Because each LTS release ends up being the recommended one for two years, the Ubuntu project releases regular updates to the LTS installation media. These roll together all the security updates and bug fixes made since Ubuntu 14.04 came out to save you some time. They also fix bugs in the installer. View a full list of changes made between Ubuntu 14.04.1 and Ubuntu 14.04.2 here.

It is rumored that Samsung will release Galaxy Note 5 in time for the IFA trade show for consumer electronics slated on Sept. 4 to 9 in Berlin, Germany just like when it released the Galaxy Note 4 last September.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 sports a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display with Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 and Exynos 5433 chipsets.

According to the blog Note5US.com, Samsung Galaxy Note 5 will likely have a 5.9-inch 4K Super AMOLED display with 600+ ppi and a 4GB RAM.

Internal storage will range from 16GB to 64GB that can be expanded to 128GB.

Another blog, Gizbot, said the Galaxy Note 5 will have Snapdragon Qualcomm 808 chipset with an Octa Core 2.9 GHz CPU.

The Galaxy Note 5 is expected to be released in September in many countries including the U.S., U.K., India, Australia, Japan and Russia.

As to the price of Galaxy Note 5, it is speculated that it will cost between $800 to $1,000.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Lollipop Release: 5 Things to Expect Now

 By

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Lollipop release is making substantial progress, so much progress in fact, that we continue to get tons of questions about the update and its roll out. Today, we want to fill you in on a few thing we think you should expect now from the Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 Lollipop update and its release in the U.S. and around the globe.
Samsung is rolling out its Galaxy Android 5.0 Lollipop updates in force to several top devices including the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S4, and the Samsung Galaxy S5. The Galaxy S5 Lollipop release was the company’s first and it continues to make substantial progress as we push on through February deeper into the new year. That said, there’s still a long way to go.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 Lollipop update has been rolling out since December. And since then, Samsung’s managed to get it out to a number of different variants in a number of different regions including here in the United States. The update represents the Galaxy S5’s first major Android update and as such, it delivers a host of new features, enhancements and fixes to owners of the current Galaxy S flagship.

Apple Leak Reveals iOS 9 Early Release

iOS 8 is a superb platform, but it has also been plagued by bugs. Arguably even more damaging for Apple , however, has been its ongoing struggle to fix them. So the company has had a simple but brilliant idea.
According to the ever reliable 9to5Mac, which cites “multiple people briefed on the plans”, Apple will perform a policy U-turn and begin releasing public betas of its latest iOS versions.
9to5Mac claims iOS 8.3 will be the first public beta in mid-March (iOS 8.2isn’t even out the door yet). This will tie in with iOS 8.3’s third beta release for developers which shows Apple sensibly isn’t pushing the very first beta straight to the public. It will also give cautious users more reassurance that new iOS versions are more widely tested before official launches.
Interested users will be able to get the software using Apple’s existingAppleSeed feedback program.
Far more exciting though is news Apple will also apply this policy to iOS 9. The company is expected to debut the next gen release at its Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) in June and follow up “with a public beta release during the summer, and final release in the fall.”

7th heaven: iPhone 7 concept is everything you’re wishing for

Four months down the line, the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus still feel like new devices, but that’s not stopping enthusiastic, design-minded techies from creating concept showing how they hope Apple’s next generation iPhone will look.

This concept, created by Netherlands-based graphic designer Yasser Farahi, shows a sleeker iPhone with thinner bezel and profile, and a few of the less popular design features of the iPhone 6 taken out. Most enticing of all is Farahi’s dream of wireless charging: a technology which has been often rumored over the years, but not as of yet implemented by Apple.

Given that Farahi has chosen to name it the iPhone 7, this particular model would likely arrive in 2016, since this year will probably see the iPhone 6s, with the majority of changes being under the hood. Personally, I’m not mad keen on some of Farahi’s subdued color choices, but it’s still a tantalizing glimpse at what we could have to look forward to next year.

Check out more pictures, and a video, after the jump.

Updated Debian 7: 7.8 released

The Debian project is pleased to announce the eighth update of its stable distribution Debian 7 (codename wheezy). This update mainly adds corrections for security problems to the stable release, along with a few adjustments for serious problems. Security advisories were already published separately and are referenced where available.
Please note that this update does not constitute a new version of Debian 7 but only updates some of the packages included. There is no need to throw away old wheezy CDs or DVDs but only to update via an up-to-date Debian mirror after an installation, to cause any out of date packages to be updated.
Those who frequently install updates from security.debian.org won't have to update many packages and most updates from security.debian.org are included in this update.
New installation media and CD and DVD images containing updated packages will be available soon at the regular locations.
Upgrading to this revision online is usually done by pointing the aptitude (or apt) package tool (see the sources.list(5) manual page) to one of Debian's many FTP or HTTP mirrors. A comprehensive list of mirrors is available at:

Samsung To Release A Galaxy S5 With An 8-Core Processor

Samsung has quietly announced that there will be two variations of the Galaxy S5. One will run the quad-core Snapdragon 801 with a 2.5GHz clock speed along with another model powered by an octo-core Exynos SoC running at 2.1GHz.
8 cores. 2.1Ghz. All that power, all those cores. In the palm your sweaty little hands.
The details are still on the light side but Samsung has done this in the past. There was a Galaxy S4 flavor that ran a previous version of the Exynos Octa-core. That model was designed for and exclusively sold in the Korean market.

Vivid Vervet Alpha 1 Released

"How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?"
– Guybrush Threepwood, Monkey Island
The first alpha of the Vivid Vervet (to become 15.04) has now been released!
This alpha features images for Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Ubuntu GNOME, UbuntuKylin and the Ubuntu Cloud images.
Pre-releases of the Vivid Vervet are *not* encouraged for anyone needing a stable system or anyone who is not comfortable running into occasional, even frequent breakage. They are, however, recommended for Ubuntu flavor developers and those who want to help in testing, reporting and fixing bugs as we work towards getting this release ready.
Alpha 1 includes a number of software updates that are ready for wider testing. This is quite an early set of images, so you should expect some bugs.
